Threads, Meta’s answer to X (formerly Twitter), was launched earlier this year in July. Now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the app will roll out an edit button and a Voice Threads feature. Unlike the paid edit option on X, Threads is not charging users for these updates. The new edit button and Voice Threads features have started rolling out and will soon be available to all users. Notably, users do need an existing Instagram account to create a Threads account.
In a Threads post, Zuckerberg confirmed that both the Edit and Voice Threads features are rolling out for all Threads users. Users will be able to edit a thread multiple times within five minutes, after which the edit feature will no longer be available. The edit button will work on both the mobile application and the web version of Threads.
However, the edit option in Threads is more restricted compared to the one on X, not only in terms of the time limit but also because Threads does not show a history of edited posts. There will only be one edit icon visible alongside the post.
The Voice Threads feature allows users to share recorded voice messages as Threads posts, similar to the voice note feature available on WhatsApp. These voice messages will be audible to all the user’s Threads followers.
There have been reports suggesting that Threads may soon offer the capability to delete a Threads account without deleting the user’s Instagram account. Currently, users need an Instagram account to create a Threads account. They can also import their account details from the older application to the new one, and users have the option to customize their Threads profile details. However, verified Instagram users’ usernames will remain unchanged on Threads, along with the verified badge. They will be able to edit their profile picture and bio.
Perspective: The introduction of an edit button and Voice Threads feature on Threads is a welcome development for users of this Meta app. The edit button allows for quick corrections or updates within a specified time limit, although it lacks the ability to show a history of edited posts. On the other hand, Voice Threads adds a new dimension to communication by enabling users to share voice messages with their followers. This feature resembles the voice note functionality found on popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp. As Threads continues to evolve, it provides users with more diverse ways to express themselves and engage with their audience.
